Israel :

Ebay, arguably the largest auction website for consumers, sells anything from fossilized breast implants (I’m not kidding) to abstract art painted by a pet turtle named Koopa -(again, not kidding).

Now, impulsive or just ordinary people seeking that perfect addition to their collection can purchase a full sized Harrier FA2 Fighter Jet from the British Royal Navy!

This beauty was used during the years of 1987 and 1997 and served with all three Fleet Air Arm Harrier squadrons.

The seller Jet Art, specializes in aviation themed furniture, collectibles and as shown above - very large lawn ornaments.

For those who are wondering; this plane is not able to be flown any longer and is only externally complete to static display and museum standards. It does not have an engine installed.

It sold for the following amounts to a lucky bidder who wished to remain anonymous:

26,100 GBP (British Pounds)
51,355 USD (United States)
136,576 NIS (Israel)
1,744,504 INR (Indian Rupees)

Hmm...I guess you really can buy anything on Ebay.

That's a cruel thing for such a fine fighter to end up as. I had been a warplane enthusiast and seeing a plane to end up as a showpiece in a private home is a sad thing. eBay did sell one MiG 29 fighter a few years back. I wonder who bought it. I would rather buy a fighter that I can fly. It had always been a dream. No, I don't need the bombs and the missiles.

Good garden toy actually. I am sure some rich parents would buy this piece for their children to play with. The cockpit should have the seat(s) and the panels like the originals. I would like to see this in a children's park rather than in a private house.

I agree - seems to me that a plane like that with history should better be served to the public rather than just sitting in someone’s lawn.

But then again - I don’t even have near the amount of money these people who bought it do, which is entirely a different story anyways :)

We use to have an F-4 Phantom in a local park.. I recall growing up flying that thing! Also had a full sized locomotive engine...
Good memories, except the falls off the locomotive. I would trade a single bruise or broken bone from those days though.
